Ferro-Manganese is the most used deoxidizer and alloying material in the Steel-making industry and Foundry. It is smelted from manganese ores in blast furnaces and electric furnaces.
Based on the different concentrations of carbon and silicon, Ferro-Manganese is of three grades:
* High Carbon Ferro-Manganese (HC Fe-Mn):
the concentration of Manganese ranges from 65-75%; Carbon ranges from 5-8%, and Silicon is 2.0%.
* Medium Carbon Ferro Manganese (MC Fe-Mn):
the concentration of Manganese ranges from 70-80%; Carbon ranges from 1.0-2.0%, and Silicon is 1.5%-2.0%.
* Low Carbon Ferro Manganese (LC Fe-Mn):
the concentration of Manganese ranges from 75-82%; Carbon ranges from 0.1-1.0%, and Silicon 1.5%.
